Ethiopian Deputy Prime Minister Visited India

H.E Dr. Debretsion G.Michael, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Communication and Information Technology, of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopian, indicated that the Ethiopian government is progressively working towards IT-enabled service delivery. The Deputy Prime Minister stated this while addressing the conference on "INDIA SOFT IT show 2013" which has been held in India, Mumbai form November 26-27 /2013.

According to him, the government has been undertaking different initiatives to use ICT as a major tool for its development agendas.

In his key note address, H.E has mentioned also the importance of communication technology as a tool to achieve the national development agenda of each African country. He noted "Africa is advancing by leaps and bounds in adoption and use of information technology. Africa increases its access to bandwidth internet has grown 20 fold in just four year."

H.E Dr. Debretsion has also emphasized how the Ethiopian government gives recognition to the use of ICT as a tool to reduce poverty. Ethiopia achieved a high result with using ICT as a means in fields such as training to farmers, assisting agricultural inputs across the country, in school-net and e-government service to create an efficient and effective government by way of simplifying the process and procedures to ascertain a quality service by promoting transparency and accountability.

During his stay the Minister visited the Power Grid Corporation power management unit in Biwade and New Delhi. The Minister interacted with the private sector and exchanged ideas about the investment opportunities in IT and power sector development in Ethiopia was discussed.

In his second day visit, the Minister also visited the Wegmans Business Park and TrustOneCity economic zone in Noida city, about 20 kilometers southeast of New Delhi.
