Ambassador Tizita Mulugeta Addresses the 6th International Conference on CSR & Sustainable Development in New Delhi

H.E. Tizita Mulugeta, Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to India, told participants the 6th International Conference on CSR & Sustainable Development that Ethiopia is engaged in an all out development effort to achieve economic growth out of which the people would benefit at all levels.

Her Excellency highlighted the growth and transformation plan Ethiopia has mapped out to implement the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) including the promotion of gender equality through measures to encourage representation of women in higher governmental position. The government have formed the most gender � balanced cabinet and appointed the first female president in the country�s history. Ambassador Tizita noted that the government was also determined to achieve full enrolment of primary school age children as well as the creation of conducive environment for all girls to go to school with a view to achieve gender balance.

Her Excellency also underscored the ambitious initiative of the Ethiopian Government to maximize generation of power from wind, geothermal and local energy and mentioned as exemplary the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam which is under construction in the Benishangul-Gumuz Regional State of Ethiopia, on the Blue Nile River, aimed primarily at generating power, with an expected capacity of over 6,000MW.

She also highlighted the National �Green Legacy� initiative which was launched by H.E. Dr. Abiy Ahmed, Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia which brought together Ethiopians from all walks of life to join hands to plant 350 million tree seedilings in a single day as an extraordinary initiative by Ethiopia to combat drought and possible desertification and mitigate climate change effect.

Present at the international conference were members of the diplomatic corps, presidents of various universities, faculty deans and invited dignitaries.
